Monmouth & Independence Chicken Revolution to host Gretchen Anderson at Independence library
In the spring of 2011, Domenica Protheroe, Malinda Bermudez and Sue Barker formed the Monmouth & Independence Chicken Revolution to legalize backyard chicken-keeping in Monmouth and Independence. According to Protheroe, chickens were legal in Monmouth until 2008.

Minto Island Growers food-cart moves to Independence for 4th of July

The 4th of July celebration in Independence, Oregon, will have a new attraction this year.
The highly-anticipated Mecanico restaurant is opening this weekend, along with a new food-cart area near Riverview Park. Mecanico will serve local micro-brews, wine, and sodas, while the food-cart section will be home to a handful of vendors, including Minto Island Growers' "Farm Food" and Wild Pineapple's teriyaki and Hawaiian-style barbecue.
Festivities this weekend will kick-off at Riverview Park on July 1st with carnival and vendor booths, live music, games, and fireworks.

Living Culture now airs on WIMPEG
Starting in January 2011, Living Culture can be seen on Monmouth's community television station known as WIMPEG. Minet Fiber and Charter Communications both carry WIMPEG in their basic cable packages. Viewers in Monmouth and Independence will find WIMPEG on cable channel 17.
Initially, WIMPEG will play older episodes from Living Culture's 3rd and 4th seasons. New episodes will follow shortly.
