June events at French Prairie Gardens, St. Paul, Oregon

French Prairie Gardens is hosting some great events in June. The 12th Annual Strawberry Festival is the perfect opportunity to spend time with your family and introduce young children to farming. I hope you enjoy these events as a kick-off to the summer season!

June is all about strawberries, and we at French Prairie Gardens know just how to celebrate. This year’s crop is especially tasty and since we have so much fun, we’ve decided to extend the celebration to two weekends! The 12th Annual Strawberry Festival starts June 11th and continues through June 19th. We are kicking off the festivities on June 11th and 12th with our 2nd annual Berries, Brews and BBQ’s, definitely a combination not to be missed! This month’s Grilling in the Garden will be strawberry inspired on June 16th. The Strawberry Festival is a great event for the entire family with fun activities and great eats so don’t leave anyone behind!

Festivities: Fresh home grown strawberries are the reason French Prairie Gardens will be celebrating the most luscious fruit of the season during their 2011 Strawberry Festival. This year, strawberry lovers of all ages can taste strawberries prepared in every way possible from strawberry donuts, shortcake, shakes, baked goods and, of course, the farm fresh berries themselves. Family-friendly activities include: hayrides, animal barn, pig barrel train rides*, toddler area, 20ft tube slide, obstacle course, farm fresh food, and strawberry picking.
Cost: Admission to the festival is $4, plus the cost of fruit picked: $8 for small picking bucket or $16 for a large picking bucket. *Additional costs apply for the Pig-Barrel Train Rides.

Festivities: Don’t miss out on our second annual Berries, Brews, and BBQ’s. Teams from all corners of the state will compete on June 11th & 12th for cash prizes and, of course, supreme bragging rights. Professional & Amateur BBQ teams are all welcome to compete! Our Competing BBQ teams will compete in 3 categories: Tri-tip, Pork Ribs, Strawberry Dessert. Festival goers will enjoy an array of Oregon beer sampling and some of the best barbecue you will find anywhere! We are honored to have Ninkasi Brewing, Silver Moon Brewing, Widmer Bro. Brewery, August Cellars and Hip Chicks Do Wine joining us! This is a minor-friendly event; feel free to bring the children. There are lots of fun activities for the children and adults of all ages during our Strawberry Festival!
Cost: Admission to the festival is $4, admission does not include food or beer tasting, or the price of U-pick Strawberries. Souvenir Beer Mugs: $8.00, includes 4 tasting tickets (must be purchased in order to taste). Additional tasting tickets are available at $1 per ticket, 4 tasting tickets = a full mug.

Festivities: This month’s Grilling in the Garden dinner menu is inspired by, of course, strawberries. Strawberries will share the center stage with the farm fresh produce and meat that will be deliciously transformed into a feast. Our family will be on hand to share the secrets behind the many fresh-picked ingredients that will be cultivated, harvested and cooked for this special French Prairie Gardens dinner.
